Capacitive sensing type
- Detects the changes in surface capacitance to operate.
- Since it only responds to a finger (or a special pen), it will not operate by mistake even when touched by a shirt sleeve or a necktie.
- Said to be suited to terminals such as ATM.
Resistive membrane type
- Detects the point touched on the surface where voltage is applied to operate.
- Currently the most common method used.
- As it detects changes in voltage by a contact between glass and film, it responds to anything including fingers.
- Used more commonly in mobile devices.
